International Awareness Month


October is International Awareness Month, and in recognition of the rich heritage brought to our lives through diversity and exposure to other cultures, the Office of Student Activities is sponsoring the following events:

Comedian Andrew Kennedy

Tuesday, October 5, at 12:15 pm

Pope Student Center

Born in Bogota, Colombia, Kennedy has lived in Colombia, Puerto Rico, Venezuela, Hong Kong, and the United States. He is fluent in both Spanish and English.

Inspirational speaker Zohra Sarwari

Thursday, October 7, at 7:30 pm

Goodroe Auditorium

Known as one of the most influential Muslim speakers in America, Sarwari is the author of nine books. She will share insights into the stereotypes that Muslims face daily.

International Food Fest

Tuesday, October 12, from 10:00 am until 2:00 pm

Pope Student Center

Ten First-Year Experience classes will prepare food to share.

*During the month of October, the Derrell C. Roberts Library will provide International Awareness bookmarks and will put an international exhibit on display and will update their website featuring international books

*Also during the month of October, First-Year Experience classes will decorate bulletin boards in each building on campus featuring different countries from around the world.
