The numbers are in and spring enrollment at Dalton State is up three percent over spring 2010 and up 19 percent over spring semester two years ago.

The spring semester enrollment of 5,720 is down four percent from the record fall 2010 enrollment of 5,988, but a spring dip is to be expected, according to Vice President for Enrollment and Student Services Jodi Johnson.

“We are encouraged to see that our numbers are remaining high,” said Johnson. “We have been retaining a higher percentage of students from fall to spring the last several years.” That number has grown to 95-97 percent retention, up from 90-95 percent in years past.

The reasons are several, Johnson explained. “I think this is due in part to our focus on retention and graduation efforts,” she said. “We have also picked up transfers as we have added bachelor degree programs. Finally, the lagging economy is still causing some individuals to come back to school for additional training and education.”
