Tawni Harris Named Beta Gamma Sigma Scholar

Tawni L. Harris, an Accounting major at Dalton State College, has been named a Beta Gamma Sigma Scholar by the Dalton State chapter of the international business honor society, Beta Gamma Sigma.

Harris was chosen to receive the $1,000 scholarship for superior performance in the study of business.

“Membership in Beta Gamma Sigma is the highest recognition a business student can receive in a baccalaureate program at a school accredited by The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business International,” said Dr. Donna Mayo, Dean of the School of Business at Dalton State and President of the DSC chapter of BGS. “To receive the BGS scholarship is an exceptional honor and Tawni is a strong student who is quite deserving of the award.”

“Tawni is an exceptional student and she’s always prepared in my Strategic Management class,” said Dr. Marilyn Helms, Sesquicentennial Chair and Professor of Management.  “In this class we explore business strategies and Tawni is often the first to contribute to the class discussion. It is clear she has researched the company beyond the textbook material and has current information about the firm and its industry,” Dr. Helms said.

Since 1988, Beta Gamma Sigma and its member deans have awarded more than $1.4 million in scholarships to outstanding student members from around the world. The Society is proud that its contributions have helped “the best in business” reach their academic and professional goals.

To be eligible for membership, the academic ranking of those being considered must place them in the upper 10 percent of their junior or senior class. Members inducted each year join an expanding worldwide network of more than 625,000 business professionals.
