Dalton State Students Inducted into Teacher Education Honor Society

Kappa Delta PiThe Kappa Delta Pi International Honor Society in Education recently welcomed 23 new members from Dalton State College. Only the top 20 percent of education students are inducted into the organization which promotes excellence, advanced scholarship, leadership, and service among teacher education students.

The Dalton State College chapter of Kappa Delta Pi International Honor Society in Education inducted 23 new members in a ceremony recently at The James E. Brown Center.

The induction was highlighted by Keynote Speaker, Jennifer Findley, a fifth grade teacher in Hamilton County, TN,  who stated that her preparation at Dalton State College provided her with strong content knowledge, a wealth of teaching strategies, strong classroom management techniques, and the “power of reflection.” Findley has been honored by the Hamilton County School System as a “Highly Effective Teacher in Math” and as a “High Performing Teacher in Hamilton County.” She credits her professional success to the strong preparation she received in the Dalton State College Teacher Education Program. 

Kappa Delta Pi was founded in 1911 and was one of the first discipline-specific honor societies. There are more than 600 Kappa Delta Pi chapters across North America with more than 45,000 total members. Membership in the honor society is limited to the top 20 percent of those entering the field of education; students must achieved a minimum grade point average of 3.2 and demonstrate academic excellence and dedication to the teaching profession, according to Ms. Orenda Gregory, Assistant Professor of Education and chapter sponsor.

Student inductees for 2012 include Alexandra Abbott, Laura Beth Bunch, Krista Collins, Sarah Elder, Brittney Gladden, Brittany Hendon, Jessica Henry, Donna McFarland, Marina Meadows, Danielle Mincey, Chelsey Ogles, Dana Patterson, Jessica Penney, Jeffrey Poston, Tara Ramsey, Sarah Reed, Tiffani Roberts, April Simerley, March Solomon, Tiffany Stanley, Karol Stroud, Rachael Sutton, and Brittany Wade.
