Dalton State to Host Free FAFSA Workshop

February 28, 2013

FREE FAFSA WORKSHOP - Holly Woods, left, Assistant Director of Financial Aid at Dalton State College, and Carol Jones, Director, welcome college-bound students and family to a free FAFSA workshop at Dalton State Thursday, March 7.

College-bound students and their families are invited to a free FAFSA workshop at Dalton State College Thursday, March 7, from 1 to 7 pm.

The FAFSA is the Free Application for Federal Student Aid and is the essential first step to receiving financial aid, said Carol Jones, Director of Financial Aid for Dalton State.

“We don’t want the FAFSA to be an obstacle for any student who might be eligible to receive aid to attend college,” said Jones, who will have plenty of financial aid counselors and other volunteers on hand to help students.

Dalton State is one of 22 sites included in the College Goal Georgia initiative sponsored by the Georgia Student Finance Commission. Volunteers will be on hand to help all students and families who need assistance completing the FAFSA, with a particular focus on helping low-income, first-generation families. Jones explained that the federal government requires a FAFSA from all students seeking financial aid, such as Pell Grants and federal student loans to pay for college.

Since 1965, the GSFC has provided more than $10 billion in financial aid to help more than two million Georgians achieve their dreams of higher education. GSFC funds and services education loans and administers multiple scholarship and grant programs, including the nationally acclaimed HOPE Scholarship program.

The Dalton State workshop will be held in the James E. Brown Center at the north end of the campus. Participants are asked to bring 2012 tax information to expedite the application process. For more information, contact Carol Jones at or by the Financial Aid office at 706-272-4545.
