Roman Elrod, 9, uses a microscope to examine a specimen as Dr. April Kay, Assistant Professor of Biology at Dalton State College, looks on. Roman will participate in the College’s ‘World of Science Camp’ this summer; Kay will be an instructor. The science camp is sponsored by the Dalton State Foundation.

Curious kids and those with an interest in science and math will have the opportunity to participate in a variety of experiments and experiences this summer at Dalton State’s World of Science Camp for children ages seven to 10.

The camp, sponsored by the Dalton State Foundation, will be taught by professors of biology, earth science, and mathematics from the College’s School of Science, Technology, and Mathematics, and is offered over two weeks, Tuesday through Friday, June 4-7 and June 11-14, from 1 to 3:45 p.m. each day.

Among the experiences scheduled for participants are exploring a bug’s life, solving number puzzles, working with dichotomous leaf keys to identify trees, and using chemical water kits to test water samples.

Cost for the World of Science Camp is $160 for both weeks or $90 for one week.

In addition to World of Science Camp, the Foundation is also sponsoring the popular Creek Critters and Stream Stomp camps, which both introduce children to the wonders of stream ecosystems. Creek Critters and Stream Stomp classes will be taught by Dalton State biology faculty members John and Gretchen Lugthart.

Creek Critters is for children ages five and six, and will meet on Monday, June 24, and Wednesday, June 26, from 1 to 3:30 p.m. Cost is $40.

Stream Stomp is for children ages seven to 10, and will meet on Tuesday, June 25, and Thursday, June 27, from 1 to 4 p.m. Cost is $50.
