DS STUDENTS PARTICIPATE IN SPANISH COMPOSITION CONTEST—Four Dalton State students recently participated in the annual statewide Spanish language composition contest sponsored by the American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese. The contest offers two levels of competition—one for students without Spanish language experience and one for those who have had extensive experience in a Spanish-speaking environment. Participants are given one hour to write a 200-word essay in Spanish on a previously unseen topic, without the use of dictionaries or electronic devices, and the essays are scored by outside judges representing the AATSP. Pictured from left are: Preston Ledford, score: Notable; Courtney Murray, score: Excellent; Dr. Nancy Mason, Assistant Professor of Spanish; Jessica Carroll, score: Excellent; and Jaime Delafuente, score: Other Experience, Superior, who was awarded a gift certificate for his outstanding essay.
