Larry Johnson Named Business School Dean

By a unanimous vote of the faculty of Dalton State’s School of Business, Dr. Larry Johnson has been named the new Dean, and Dr. Mike D’Itri has been named Associate Dean.

Johnson, also named Professor of Economics, has served the last year as Interim Dean and previously was Associate Dean. He has been a member of the Dalton State faculty since 2005. Prior to coming to Dalton State, Johnson worked for the Tennessee Valley Authority and the University of Tennessee in Knoxville.

He received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the University of Georgia and his Ph.D. from Virginia Tech.

In addition to his administrative duties as Dean, Johnson has been instrumental in creating the School of Business’s Center for Economic Research and Entrepreneurship which publishes a semiannual newsletter, Business Analytics, featuring articles on economics and entrepreneurship for Northwest Georgia. CERE also hosts speakers and workshops.

He continues his research in the areas of economics, finance, and risk management; results of his research have been published in journals including The Journal of Energy Markets; Academy of Accounting and Financial Studies Journal; Academy of Banking Studies Journal; International Journal of Commerce and Management; Journal of The International Academy of Case Studies; and Education & Training Journal.

Dalton State’s School of Business is accredited by the American Association of College Schools of Business. The school enrolls approximately 950 students and awarded 94 Bachelor of Business administration degrees during the 2012-2013 academic year. Majors include BBAs in Accounting, Marketing, and Management Information Systems; also the BBA in Management with concentrations in Entrepreneurship, Human Resource Management, and Operations Management, as well as a Bachelor of Applied Science degree in Technology Management. The school also offers Associate of Applied Science and Certificate programs.

Leadership is provided by 23 full-time faculty and 13 part-time faculty members, in addition to four administrative and support staff members.
