Dr. Sandra Stone, Vice President for Academic Affairs at Dalton State College, has been selected to participate in the sixth class of the Education Policy Fellowship Program, part of the Georgia Partnership for Excellence in Education.

Dr. Stone, along with 20 other selectees from around the state, will spend nine months expanding her knowledge of educational policies and related issues. “I am honored to have been chosen to participate in this year's program,” she says. “With the Complete College Georgia initiative, Common Core, continuing budget challenges, shifting demographics, and other pressing concerns, the need has never been greater for all levels of the educational system to understand each other and work together to produce a better educated citizenry.”

The Education Policy Fellowship Program was created nine years ago by the Institute for Educational Leadership and is now being conducted in 16 states. With an aim to enhance the quality of the states’ learning achievements and student success, the EPFP brings educational leaders together to broaden their understanding of policies that improve the public education system.

Throughout the course of the program, participants will attend multiple colloquia led by experts in education and travel to Washington, D.C., to attend a national policy seminar.

“I look forward to learning more about other parts of the system and how we might address our mutual challenges more effectively,” said Dr. Stone. Topics covered by the various sessions include “Political and Demographic Landscape of Georgia: Strategic Leadership in a Dynamic Policy Environment,” and “Why Public Education: How Does the U.S. Educational System Compare to that of Other Countries?”
