Cast of ‘Overdue’ Features Dalton State Students and Faculty
November 12, 2013
“Overdue,” a student-penned comedy, will make its world debut on Thursday, November 14, in the Goodroe Auditorium of Gignilliat Memorial Hall at Dalton State College.
With a faculty cameo, witty one-liners, and references to numerous movies, “Overdue” is the brainchild of student Joshua Beard, who also plays the character, Larry. The play, set in Press Play Video, a “mom-and-pop” video rental store, focuses on the lives of three of its slacker employees. Originally written over the summer of 2012, Beard submitted it in the hopes that it would “push the envelope a little,” he says.
Jackie Daniels, Assistant Professor of Theatre Arts as well as chairperson of the play-reading committee at Dalton State, directs the production. After Beard submitted his play to the committee, made up of Dalton State faculty from the Department of Communication, it was unanimously decided that “Overdue” would be this year’s fall production.
The cast is comprised of 16 Dalton State students, among them: David Moss, Sean Self, Savannah Whittenburg, Josh Boling, Alyssa Stromley, Kirsten Gilley, Roniqua Wright, Jamie Steadman, Eric Thomason, Nathaniel Payne, Shiny Gibson, Scott Reese, Megan Bergeman, Jasmyne Fletcher, and Kassandra Hardegree. Joining them is Assistant Professor of Spanish, Dr. Nancy Mason.
Daniels will be aided by Assistant Director Josh Bolling, Lighting and Sound Technician Malik Barton, and Stage Crew Amber Deal and Kirsten Ellis. Laurie Raper helped with Properties. Set Design and Construction Crew include Sarah Thurman, Demetrice Jacobs, Kenny Carter, Bo Southerland, Eric Thomason, Savannah Whittenburg, Josh Beard, and Autumn Bickle.
“Overdue” will be performed in Goodroe Auditorium of Gignilliat Memorial Hall at 7 pm November 14, 15, and 16 and also at 2 pm on November 17. The play is free to Dalton State students, faculty, and staff; others pay $5 at the door. Seating is limited and is available first-come, first-served. The play contains adult content meant for mature audiences.
