Dalton State Offers College Instruction on Non-Credit Basis

In an effort to help local employees gain knowledge and skills needed to be more successful in their jobs, Dalton State College will admit qualified adults to credit classes on a non-credit basis beginning in January.
“It just makes sense where we have capacity to allow working adults to take classes and gain expertise that can help them be more successful in their careers,” said Dr. Randall Griffus, Dean of Dalton State’s School of Science, Technology, and Mathematics. All non-credit students will be admitted to classes on a space available basis after regular Dalton State students have enrolled.
These non-credit learners will be charged the same tuition rate for classes as other Dalton State students, but will not actually enroll in the College or pay fees. The non-credit students will attend classes alongside Dalton State students, participating fully in all class activities, Griffus said. After successful completion of each course, enrolled students will earn credit hours toward a degree; non-credit students will receive a Certificate of Completion.
Griffus developed the Education Enhancement program after receiving inquiries from industry executives for college instruction in computer programming, computer networking, chemistry, and business communications. Administrators at Dalton State elected to make virtually the entire Dalton State catalog of classes (except eCore classes) available to interested adults on a non-credit basis.
Among the programs Griffus expects to be most popular are iSeries 400 Operations and Facilities, Operating Systems, RPG Programming, COBOL Programming, Java Programming, Control Language, Databases, MatLab, Network Protocols and Security, Unix, Routing Protocols, PLC, LAN and WAN, as well as classes in mathematics, chemistry, and communications, including the College’s new epublishing class that will be taught by Barbara Tucker.
