Local Economy Is Focus of Business Newsletter

The economic status of the Northwest Georgia region is the focus of the fall issue of Business Analytics, a publication of the Center for Economic Research and Entrepreneurship of Dalton State College’s School of Business.
The newsletter, which is available both online and in printed form, contains an analysis of business clusters in the region, an article about Thrive 2055, a new plan for furthering economic improvement in the area, and a dashboard about pertinent economic indicators for the region, presented county-by-county. The articles are authored by business faculty members.
“Our goal is that ‘Business Analytics’ will serve as a way to give readers a quick snapshot of Northwest Georgia's economy and the endeavors of its citizens,” says Dr. Brent Evans, Assistant Professor of Economics and the newsletter’s new editor.
Evans also penned one of the newsletter’s articles, entitled “Thrive 2055: A Regional Planning Initiative.”
“An inherent connection exists among the counties of Northwest Georgia, Northeast Alabama, and Southeast Tennessee,” says Evans. “Thrive 2055 is a public/private partnership that aims to address the economic and socioeconomic challenges of the 16-county region and to set a strategy for the coming years.”
Dr. Larry Johnson, Dean of the School of Business, analyzes business clusters in the economic region encompassing south metro Atlanta to Chattanooga and parts of East Tennessee. Most would consider textiles to be our region’s strongest business cluster, however, Dr. Johnson details the numerous other clusters in the area, including biopharmaceutical containers, building fixtures, equipment, and services; construction machinery, and processed food. “The analysis should aid economic developers, local officials, and area businesses expand business opportunities in the region” says Dr. Johnson.
