In a concert celebrating a unique blend of classical and contemporary compositions, Dalton State College welcomes Atlanta by Six, an innovative chamber music ensemble, in a free concert Tuesday, February 4.

Historically, chamber music was written and orchestrated to be played by a small number of musicians; smaller groups of instruments meant that the ensembles could easily fit into a palace chamber. Atlanta by Six takes a more modern approach to chamber music, blending old- and new-fashioned compositions and improvisations on themes provided by the audience.

The ensemble is comprised of Atlanta-area professional musicians who regularly perform with the Atlanta Opera, Atlanta Ballet, Carroll Symphony, Georgia Symphony, Ashville Symphony, Huntsville Symphony, and Rome Symphony Orchestras, according to Dr. Ellie Jenkins, Assistant Professor of Music at Dalton State.

Members of Atlanta by Six include Terry Lowry (piano), Edward Eanes (violin), Joe Lester (viola), David Lloyd (cello), Todd Markey (double bass), and Todd Mueller (percussion).

“Atlanta by Six is an innovative ensemble formed by an accomplished group of energetic and dynamic musicians who share a compelling vision of the classical music experience,” says Jenkins. “Their performances make for a unique and interactive experience for the audience and the musicians alike.”

The performance will take place on Tuesday, February 4 at 7:30 pm in Goodroe Auditorium of Gignilliat Memorial Hall at Dalton State College. The program is free and open to the public, and seating is first come, first served.
