Dr. Jerico Vasquez will kick off Dalton State’s Concerts on Campus series with a free piano concert Monday evening, Sept. 8, at 7:30 in Goodroe Auditorium.

Vasquez, Artist in Residence and Coordinator of Keyboard Studies at Shorter University in Rome, has been called a pianist “of intelligent ardor and exceptionally clear and bright technique.”

According to Dr. Ellie Jenkins, Assistant Professor of Music at Dalton State and coordinator of the campus concert series, Vasquez has performed as a concerto soloist, as a recitalist, and as a chamber musician in the United States, Canada, Europe, and the Philippines.

“I’m thrilled to have Dr. Vasquez performing again at Dalton State,” said Dr. Jenkins. “He’s a wonderful, passionate performer, and the audience seemed enraptured with him at his last appearance.”

He earned his Bachelor of Music degree from the University of California in Santa Barbara, and his Master of Music and Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Piano Performance, with a minor in Music History and Literature, from the Moores School of Music at the University of Houston. Before joining the faculty at Shorter University, he taught at the Moores School of Music, as well as at the University of Houston, Downtown.

He is also a recipient of the Ojai Festival’s prestigious Charlotte and Alvin Bronstein Award, Capitol Records’ Nat King Cole Memorial Award, and the University of California Regents Scholarship and is a member of the Pi Kappa Lambda Music Honorary Society.

The guest recital will begin at 7.30 p.m. in Goodroe Auditorium of Gignilliat Memorial Hall. Seating is available on a first-come, first served basis.
