Dalton State to Thank Veterans
November 7, 2014
They’ve served our country, protected our rights, and selflessly risked it all to ensure our safety, and now it’s time to say thank you.
Dalton State College will celebrate Veterans Day on Tuesday, Nov. 11 with “Thank a Veteran,” a chance to applaud some of our nation’s heroes.
Sponsored by the Dalton State Staff Council and the Dalton State Military Student Association, students, faculty, staff, and the public are invited for a video presentation, where there will be treats for the veterans and ribbons for everyone to commemorate the day.
“All too often in today’s fast moving society, we rarely pause to show gratitude for the many things that we are blessed with in life,” said Carla Mahan, who is organizing the event. “We have Thanksgiving Day where we pause to give thanks for the things that we have, but I feel that Veterans Day is important because it allows us the opportunity to thank those brave service men and women who have fought for us to bear the right to the many things that we are thankful for.”
Josh Panther, President of the Student Veterans Organization on campus, says that “Thank a Veteran” is the perfect opportunity to show gratitude.
“It’s good to honor our veterans,” he said. “They’ve made huge sacrifices on the other side of the world and it’s great for them to be recognized. It’s not too often that we get a chance to say thanks, so this is a good opportunity to show that people appreciate them.”
“Thank a Veteran” will take place from 9 to 11 a.m. in the Eddie Miller Room on the top level of the Pope Student Center at Dalton State.
